The Westborough Experiments

As a reprieve from the indoor isolation of the Covid era, Scott Bakal often walked around a nearby lake and park with a camera. At first with a digital camera, then with film cameras he used in college decades ago.

With a reintroduction of his use of film, an internationally award winning illustrator, artist and photographer, over a period of five years, photographed the Lake Chauncy and Westborough Agricultural Reserve obsessively. Hundreds of film photos were shot of the lake and reserve.

From all of those photos, a selection of over 80 photographs were chosen from the experiments with cameras, film stocks and accessories, used often for the first time. Scott analyzes the successes and failures of capturing the environment but also, seeing how the fields, lake and nature change over time.

Whether you are a film camera enthusiast or enjoy landscape photography, this book will take you on a journey from Scott’s early days in 1990 using film to the recent beautiful landscape work in this book.
